The easiest and fastest way to get there is by air. Several airlines serve Manda airport, which is located on the island just opposite the house.
The flight is only an hour from Nairobi, departing either from Jomo Kenyatta international airport (Fly 540), or from Wilson Airport (Air Kenya and Safari Link). There are several flights each day to Lamu.
When you arrive at the airport, Nassir, the captain of the Beyonce Boat, will be there to meet you and take you across the channel. Within minutes you'll be at the jetty at the foot of the house.

It's also possible to travel by car as far as Mokowe, where we can arrange to pick you up from the pier.

 Forodhani House OverviewForodhani House is “look-out post” in Kiswahili. Its location is truly stunning. From the garden as well as from each floor of this holiday home, you have a 180° view of the sea.
From almost anywhere in Forodhani House you are offered incredible views of the Indian Ocean and the whole Lamu archipelago. This gorgeous holiday home, is a place to relax and unwind with your family and friends...with a garden, a beach, a pool and staff to take care of you, you won't need to travel far to find a sanctuary where you can dine, relax and soak up the atmosphere in this marvellous town that time forgot.
The Forodhani pool stretches lazily between the garden and the ocean. You have a choice : plunge here in the pool or in the sea, a few steps down which lead to the beach. A beautiful acacia tree provides some welcome shade. Recommended for: No matter how tempting it is, visitors are encouraged to leave the idllic closed compound of Forodhani House to go by foot just a short along the beach. To see the old city of Lamu is an absolute must. Here,you'll be transported directly back into the 17th century to place where there are no cars, and the labyrinth of alleyways are always interesting to get lost in. Even donkey's wander aimlessly around... This is not a place to rush! - Slow down, relax - you're in Lamu. Forodhani House Accommodation: Accommodates from 10 to 13 people with all the necessary comforts. The 4 double bedrooms each have their own bathroom and a shaded terrace, and all have a view over the sea. A 5th bedroom, overlooking the Indian Ocean also, has 3 single beds, a terrace and, of course, a bathroom as well. Forodhani House Facilities: The kitchen, dining terrace and large lounge are all located on the ground floor, along with the pool. Guests have various possibilities where they can dine and relax. Walking from through arched galleries, from room to room among ornately carved plasterwork with decorative niches and friezes to give the house a feeling of splendid grandeur in a laid back sort of way! Forodhani House Location: All the floors overlook the whole channel and the beach with the sails of the dhows down below, skimming past the house, heading for Lamu, Manda or the open seas. Higher up still is the roof terrace which offers perhaps the best views of all. Here you can see the the village rooftops for the whole of Shela as well as glorious views of the ocean. |

Forodhani House was the perfect place to stay this september, as I needed to sleep, relax, after a much busy period. To my mind, the best location possible in Lamu, as you have all sea-views, comfort and service, the beach at your feet and Peponi terrace very close.

We spent 10 days there recently and had a wonderful stay : relaxed, stunning views, very good chef who cooked each meal deliciously and differently. The staff are sweet and efficient. We enjoyed Lamu Town, the beach much also, and dhow cruisings, looking at them from the House as well as going in board to sunset cruise ourselves too. We'll come back and recommend it for sure !
