The 4th Consecutive Shompole Marathon will take place on the 31st march and 1st April 2012. A half marathon route is now very exciting as it now also includes one lake. It takes place at Oloika Township - Shompole. Oloika is the town between Lake Magadi and Lake Natron ( on your way to the Shompole Eco-lodge), about 132km from Nairobi city.
The course gives runners the chance to see wildbeest, zebra, gazelles and other herbivores in the the pastures along the route. Offering a different experience to the usual road running marathons, this is an extreme event, that takes long distance running to the next level. Difficult environments will push runners just that little bit further, so if you enjoy a challenge this is the one for you.
Where is Shompole?
Shompole is the vast land that lies between lakes Magadi and Natron. The small town of Oloika, the start of the race, lies about 132km from Nairobi through Magadi town.
