![]() The Muthaiga Country Club OverviewKenya’s colonial history would not be the same without The Muthaiga Country Club.
The club dates back to 1913, and the Club is full of memorabilia dating back to colonial times. The old dusty lion bagged by a hunter from a time of hunting triumphs, blends with modern amenities and elegant décor. The Club is steeped in history, to a time when maveric explorers and missionaries mixed with the likes of Karen Blixen, Beryl Markham and Lord Delamere.
Mentioned in almost all the books written about colonial life in Kenya, this exclusive members club has retained it's distinguished reputation and prides itself on it's high standards of culture and charm. Strict rules of conduct are enforced in an unobtrusive, yet no nonsense way! (no mobile phones allowed inside, dress codes for the various areas within the club, and definitely no hats to be worn inside!) |

September 2011 "We always stay here when we stay in Nairobi"
Sir Bertie Boscomm from Britain
Of course you do, I mean where else. This has been the default location for rich white people since it opened. If you want to feel superior and very colonial, this is the place to be.

We always stay here when we visit Nairobi. It has a nice atmosphere and it always feels like coming home.

January 2010 Wonderful taste of the good old days!
Christine Duthie from Edinburgh, Scotland
What a gorgeous place to stay with a real opulence rarely seen elsewhere. This is a delightful escape from glitzy 5 star hotels. It's rather like stepping back in time with beautifully decorated rooms and space to enjoy a quiet G&T on the verandah. My husband and I savoured every moment and very much look forward to our next visit. The food was delicious traditional fare in an old wood panelled restaurant - rather reminded me of my school days! Beautiful gardens and all in all just elegant and welcoming with 5 star service from the delightful staff. One thing that I might just add however, is that the pool, nice as it was, was rather crowded when we visited. It might be best to avoid weekends.
