![]() The Old Man and the Sea OverviewThis quaint little restaurant is right on the sea front in Malindi and has all the character that you could hope to find in a restaurant. This atmosphere is cosy and there are nice little nooks to hide away in. Alternatively, large windows in the front room and views of the sea from the patio offer a perfect place to soak up the ambiance and watch the world pottering by outside.
The food is delicious, and although it specializes in seafood; serving wonderful seafood platters, crab, lobster etc, The Old Man and the Sea also has a good selection of creative vegetarian and meat dishes.
Many of the recipes on the menu are unique, with several originating from the restaurant's own kitchen! Eg Mango Cheesecake, which is purely Kenyan; Poached Snapper in Champagne Sauce (which may sound ‘the usual’, but is quite a different recipe and absolutely delicious).
The old Man and the Sea was Earnest Hemingway's final book, written in Cuba and published in 1951. The restaurant captures the atmosphere of Hemingway's book perfectly, which is all about an aged fisherman who struggles to land a giant Marlin in the Gulf stream. The book describes the contrast of a struggle between old and new. The restaurant is well worth visiting and we loved the slow pace, good service and character of this unusual seafood restaurant.
The Old Man & The Sea Co Ltd also owns another well known and well loved local restaurant: The "I Love Pizza Restaurant" which is found nearby. |
