![]() Onami Grill & Sushi Bar OverviewThis stylish Japanese restaurant is tucked away discreetly on the 2nd floor of the trendy Westgate shopping centre. It’s serene interior is modern and spacious with a delicious range of beautifully presented Japanese dishes on offer.
It’s not just about sushi and raw food though (although for sushi and sashimi fans, you won’t be disappointed). Onami’s open kitchen, sushi bar, grill, Yakitori and Teppanyaki tables create a varied menu combining various cooking methods combining traditional & light fusion Japanese dishes. Fresh ingredients are cut, sliced, stirred, fried and grilled. Fresh fish, seafood and meat are expertly prepared to showcase Japanese cuisine at its best; furai , tempura , noodles, sushi & sashimi.
As you enter the interior of black stones and plants you feel as though you’re entering a real Japanese garden. The ambient music in the background, a warm welcome and friendly service brings together a fabulous Japanese dining experience. Well worth a visit and undoubtedly one that you’ll be sure to want to repeat.

December 2010 Fabulous sushi
N K from Narok, Kenya
A surprising gem amidst a city with limited food choices. I have no idea how they get fish so fresh and delicious but it rivals sushi I've had in coastal fishing cities.
GOOD: consistently delicious sushi and sashimi, great cocktails, excellent service, nice if austere ambiance
BAD: not really bad, but the fixed bento sushi combinations are not my favorite mixes
Other: I can't speak to the teppanyaki since I haven't had it… but definitely order the spicy tuna hand rolls

January 2010 Trend setting Nairobu Fusion Food
Andre Smith from Nairobi, Kenya
Designed and owned by the same winning team as the ultra trendy Arts Cafe, Onami is a multisensory celebration of fusion mood and food. It's where the timeout elite of Nairobi are mingling and tasting now. A brand new benchmark of Euro-style in East Africa, even the Japanese chefs were imported from Tel Aviv. Onami and Arts Cafe hit the right button for anyone who wants to juxtapose the best of the west with the adventure of Africa. Hands on attention from the owners guarantees culinary excellence, though this is not echoed enough by the servers who may fill your wine glass without first asking...
Commit yourself for a indulgent mood sensation of NY cocktails and fine wine from the designer floor-to-ceiling rack - a functional masterpiece..
For the non-sushi purists, there's the brand new Tapas menu. Try the Sashini Tapas and the must-have-more grilled red peppers, goat's cheese and yoghurt.
A bit softer on the music, a touch more care from the servers and it's 5 star all the way.
