Our Local Experts in Koh Samui

It was only the early 1970s that the first backpackers traveling on a coconut boat arrived on Koh Samui. For years after that the island just had a few bungalows and a trickle of travelers. In the early 1990s, boats of tourists began to arrive, and since then the island has soared in popularity. Samui is now the second most popular island destination in Thailand, after Phuket. Koh Samui is an oasis of natural beauty, with its white sandy beaches, dazzling coral, luscious lagoons, picturesque waterfalls, swaying coconut trees and crystal clear water.

Nigel Ryding is a Business Graduate majoring in Marketing & Sport Management, with 20 years experience in Customer Service, Sales, Events & Project Management across 3 continents. His yearning to experience travel, people and culture prompted him to pack his bags and hit the unknown road at the age of 19. Out of 85 cities in 26 countries one place struck a chord like no other. 9 years ago a 2 night stop-over in Bangkok turned into a 3 month exploration of the most wondrous country Nigel had ever visited. The most magical place being Koh Samui and since that first visit he has returned again and again, finally deciding to make it his home.

Yulya Ryding is a business professional with 10 years experience in varios media marketing roles for companies such as 'Apple Russia' and 'Channel 1 TV network Moscow'. At the same time Yulya has pursued her passion for photograpy, with her works being published for tourist bureaus, book covers and local tourist businesses an dis now the full-time photographer for My Destination Koh Samui.
