Scandale Royal Overview

Building on the success of the original “Le Scandale” in Kazimierz comes a new offering for Krakow’s Old Town. Opened in 2008 on Plac Szczepanski, Scandale Royal is a “dress to impress” and very stylish cocktail bar that also offers an extensive and quality restaurant menu. Or, alternatively, Scandale Royal is a fine restaurant that also features a chic cocktail bar – either way the customer wins.

The air-conditioned interior could be described as understated modern gothic, with plentiful use of textiles in varying shades of purple, highly polished hardwood floors and a diverse array of lighting that includes a giant chandelier that lights both the ground and first floors. The first floor also enjoys plenty of natural light due to its full-length windows facing out onto Plac Szczepanski. Meanwhile downstairs there is a basement where live bands perform from 10.30 pm.

Scandale Royal opens at 7.30 am and stays open – in the grand Krakow tradition – until the last guest leaves. Early customers can choose from an eclectic breakfast menu. After 10 pm there is a special late night menu that includes sushi, and in between there is the main restaurant menu that cheerfully and skilfully offers a range of dishes that fuse together the best in French, Asian and Polish cuisine. Highlights include tuna steak provencale with ratatouille and rice, tiger prawns flambéed in pastis and lamb medallions in a garlic and parsley crust.

Visitors to Scandale Royal who simply want to drink (and no doubt look good at the same time) will be impressed by the cocktails – among Krakow’s best. The bar staff take their skills as mixologists very seriously and the huge variety of alcohols behind the long sweeping bar promises something for all palates. All or part of the bar/restaurant can be reserved, with a capacity of 110 persons seated or a maximum of 150 persons when in cocktail mode.
