Lajkonik - Piekarnia i Kawiarnia

As readers of this site will already know, the Lajkonik is a weird hybrid man/horse creature who carries a golden mace; one hit from which endows the victim with good luck. He is also a symbol of Krakow, and therefore eminently suited for this small chain of cafés-cum-bakeries.
Both coffee and pastries are extremely popular with Cracovians, as evinced by the 700-odd cafés in the city. What is less common is to find one with its own bakery supplying freshly-baked bread all day long. As customers have become more discerning, so has the availability of artisan bakery, and with Lajkonik the high standard of its bread and pastries is matched only by the friendliness and comfort of its cafés.
Here you will find a large range of traditional Polish breads and rolls: white, brown and black; made with sunflower seeds, poppy seeds, rye flour; as well as baguettes and croissants. The extensive sandwich menu converts any of these into a tasty snack or light meal that can be enjoyed inside or taken away, with a wide choice of delicious fresh toppings or fillings. Similarly, the range of sweet pastries and cakes will satisfy those of you with a sweeter tooth and make a perfect accompaniment to their excellent coffee.
There are currently four branches of Lajkonik, all within a short walk from the Main Square. Often busy, the service is nevertheless brisk, friendly and efficient, while the overall style and interior design successfully combine traditional and modern in a way that is reassuringly comfortable, yet light and airy.
