Ampang is quite a unique district in Malaysia, located both in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor region. Ampang was originally under Selangor but after Kuala Lumpur is declared a Federal Territory, the township is split among these two areas. The Selangor side of Ampang is more commonly known as Ampang Jaya while the Kuala Lumpur side is just Ampang.

One end of Ampang is situated very near the city centre, just adjacent of Jalan Tun Razak where accomodation such as Doubletree by Hilton, or Hotel Maya along Jalan Ampang can be located. Hotel Maya is located just opposite the favourite nighlitfe spots among locals and tourist, Zouk. Some other nightspots along Jalan Ampang is Alexis Bistro located at Great Eastern Mall.

It is also close to the landmarks such as Petronas Twin Towers, shopping malls in Bukit Bintang, Suria KLCC, and also tourist hotspots such as the National Museum, Little India, and Chinatown.
