Casablanca

Casablanca is a Mediterranean style restaurant because our food has strong roots in that region. All our dishes can be traced back to an origin on the Mediterranean Sea.

The Tortilla which is used to make nachos traces its origin back to the Spaniards that brought it back from Mexico and the Mayan kitchen. The tortilla chip was popularised by Rebecca Webb Carranza as a way to make use of misshapen tortillas rejected from her deli and tortilla factory in LA.

Several of our salads are traditional salads from the Mediterannean such as the Greek Salad or the exotic Watermelon Salad that comes from Morocco. Kebabs which are simply grilled meat Mediterranean style is one of the most classical food enjoyed by all people around this region and its name come from Turkey.

The sandwich is another example of a traditional Mediterranean food that has become a classic almost everywhere in the world. Even though some claimed that the name could be traced back to England (the Earl of Sandwich), the sandwich is in fact an old Italian tradition. The southern Italian immigrants to United States from the Naples, Italy region (Neapolitan) brought with them the Italian sandwich, made with baked crusted bread with pointed ends stuffed with cured meat and cheese. Entrepreneurial immigrants seized on the opportunity to peddle the sandwich to the Italian immigrant workers on the docks at the waterfront, and to the laborers at construction sites.

Casablanca means "the white house". It is one of the main cities on the outskirts of the Mediterranean, more precisely the West coast of Morocco. The name came from across the Mediterranean from Spain and Portugal.

Today, Casablanca symbolizes many things. To us it symbolizes exactly the melting pot of Mediterranean influences.
