First things first: Old Tom's Bar, unless you're a seasoned regular (what do you mean you're not?) could prove a little tricky to find. First off you have to head to Leadenhall Market and find the Lamb Tavern, conveniently pictured on the Leadenhall Market profile page. Now head downstairs; just follow the sultry aromas of sausages and cheese. You'll find yourself in a decked out undercellar where meats hang from the ceiling alongside the light fixtures, where bare brick sections and tiled walls give a butcher's/basement vibe, and where chopping boards with cuts of meat and slices of gorgeous cheese sit atop the bar worktop.
What a combination of aroma, sight and taste Old Tom's is. The clever marriage of fine wines (Malbec) and cheeses (farmhouse Cheddars), cold meat slices (venison salami) and craft ales (Sambrooks Wandle) makes it an outstanding establishment on the London drinking scene. Aimed at a variety of opulent palettes, Old Tom's combines the grapes and the grain splendidly. You won't have to empty your pockets here, either - but it's easy to get carried away.
For a really cool afternoon out and a chance to try stuff you might otherwise pass on, check out Old Tom's.
