Madrid Beach
As one famous song said there is one thing that was missing from Madrid to be perfect: there is no beach here.
Well, after the restructuring of Madrid Río, Madrid now has what it's called an urban beach, as proposed by young students in a children's competition of ideas for our city. The beach of Madrid has three areas of water for different uses: The surface layer of water, to lie and soak; the water jets; and a pond with water sprays. In addition there will be green meadows, where users may have sun umbrellas and loungers along the river side for sun bathing.
Pines salon
There are 6 kilometers of tree-lined boulevard along where children can enjoy play areas. The pines salon also offers bio healthy circuits and resting areas for everyone. This long walk of pines is traversed by pedestrian and bike routes, and goes from King's Bridge up in the north to near the southern junction.
Arganzuela Park
23 hectares of landscaped gardens make it the main garden area of Madrid Río. There are bicycles and pedestrians paths throughout the park, and five playgrounds with jungle trees and hill slides.
Orchard
A fruit tree garden that recalls the one in the sixteenth century that served to the Palacio de Vargas. This new orchard has 837 trees of different species: almonds, pears, quinces, plums, olives, walnuts, apples, mulberries and fig trees.
Other smaller parks and gardens have been created, like: the one of Aniceto Marinas, the park of the Virgen del Puerto, the gardens of the Segovia Bridge or Toledo Bridge. This whole environment is a major corridor that links to other green spaces ranging between Getafe and El Pardo in the north.
Bike ring
The bike trail in Madrid Río is 30 km in length, connected with other existing trails. The demand for cycling is not only as a recreational sport area but as an alternative way to move within Madrid.
The bike trail is linked to other popular trails like GR7 to the Sierra in the north or the Tierno Galvan Park in the south.
More sports
In addition there are 42 miles of footpaths for athletics, either running or walking; several paddle and tennis courts; extreme BMX circuit; a climbing wall for different user levels; a skate park; 7 and 11 man soccer pitches; basketball court; and rowing and canoeing water tracks, among dams 8 and 9.
