It's a bit tricky defining hostels in Mallorca, as they often overlap into pensions at one end and hotels at the other. Mallorca hostels are categorised from 1 to 3 stars and many offer good basic rooms, sometimes with a private shower.

In Mallorca, the sign outside a hostel is a large H with a small s above, while a hostal-residencia, which serves no meals other than breakfast, shows a large HR, with a small s above the H. Hotels on the other hand simply have the large letter H. Each type of accommodation may have varying numbers of stars associated with these signs.
