Castell Miquel Wine Estate

Is Castell Miquel the most beautifully situated winery in Mallorca? We think so!

Tumbling down a steep hill close to the mountain village of Alaró, the old stone terraces of the 'Es Castellet' estate form the 'Stairway to Heaven' for which the estate's top wines are named. The narrow terraces capture the sun during the day and release the heat to protect the vines during cooler nights. Natural drainage and fertile soil complete the circle, which results in the production of high quality grapes, with concentrated flavours and uniform growth. Familiar grape varities such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc are hand picked and carefully selected on the mountainside before the wine making begins.

Vineyard owner Professor Michael Popp has been researching and producing high quality plant based pharmaceutical products under the Bionorica trade mark for many years, and he understands the vagaries of nature and the importance of timing, especially of harvesting, in ensuring quality and uniform plant production. He has applied that scientific knowledge to his 'hobby' with the objective of producing wines which are as close to perfection in their appeal to the senses as in the benefits they also bring to our health. At Castell Miquel we see the formidable combination of centuries of knowledge and tradition with the technical capabilities of the 21st century.

The estate has several rooms and outdoor spaces suitable for events, workshops and seminars, ranging from a private Tasting Room for up to 15 people, to the large terrace which can accommodate up to 200 people, a fully equipped conference room and a dining room to seat 150. The venue offers customised catering for any occasion, from the small buffet to large gala dinners. Prices are very reasonable and the setting could hardly be finer!

For tours and wine tasting, the opening hours until March 31 are Monday - Friday 12.00 to 17.30. From 1 April until 31 October the opening hours are from 11.30 to 19.30 Monday to Friday, and 10.00 to 14.00 on Saturdays. Individual visitors are welcome, larger groups should contact the Bodega to confirm arrangements in advance. Access to this beautiful place is not difficult - there's even a helicopter pad - and it's well worth a visit for a guided wine tasting. Contact Björn Kirchner on +34 664 507 334.

The estate is closed for visits from 22nd December to 15th January.
