Finca Son Real
Mallorca
Well worth an outing, especially for walkers, the public estate of Finca Son Real is just a few kilometres east of Can Picafort and has plenty of interest for the visitor.
The remains of a necropolis, with many graves of all shapes and sizes occupy a sandstone spit opposite the little island of Porras, which itself contains many interesting archaelogical remains. These remains appear to be of Eastern origin, possibly Phoenecian, hence the old name of Punta Fenicis.
Behind the beach area there's a stairway over the fence and a series of marked trails leading to the estate houses, with frequent information boards about plants, birds and animals.
The estate houses are about a 30 minute walk from the coast and include a museum and interpretation centre, audiovisual displays, and details of the rich archaelogical heritage of the area. The farm itself continues to operate as such, with sustainability as a major focus.
