Mallorca is not all about beaches, but with more than 200 of them fringing this beautiful Mediterranean island’s coastline, they really should not be missed. Whatever type of summer holiday you like, Mallorca has a beach for you, even if you want to take off all your clothes!
The vast majority of Mallorca's beaches are characterised by dazzling white, soft and fine sand which slopes gently into clear, turquoise waters, and can be found spread evenly around the island’s perimeter, apart from the dramatic and mountainous west coast.
To the east and west of the capital, Palma de Mallorca, the popular tourist areas of Playa de Palma, Magaluf and Palmanova are centred around large sandy beaches with lots of attractions and every possible amenity. Likewise, large holiday resorts have developed in the north around the bays of Pollença and Alcúdia, and on the east coast near Sa Coma and Cala Millor – all with simply glorious beaches.
By contrast, the famous Es Trenc Beach in the south-east of the island has been protected from development and is, fittingly, difficult to access. Other secret beaches such as Cala Varques have absolutely no facilities but offer a relaxing location to enjoy total solitude, peace and quiet. Unless you have a boat, however, it’s a 15 minute walk carrying all you need, but well worth it!
