![]() La Mere Restaurant OverviewLa Mere is a restaurant with a twist in Malta's capital, Valletta. It is impossible to try and categorise La Mere's cuisine. Seemingly having one chef from Malta and the other from India, the unique menu is a mix of Mediterranean, Maltese, Arabian and Indian cuisine influences!
Set in Merchant Street, just round the corner from St. John's Co-Cathedral, this place is a lovely find for anyone wandering through the historic streets of Valletta. The swanky logo outside the door probably gives a good hint of the unusual combination of dishes at La Mere, as does the pleasingly mellow and cosy interiors consisting of just a dozen tables set in a room with traditional Maltese limestone walls adorned with some beautiful modern paintings.
If wandering the streets of Malta's capital has opened up an appetite for some traditional local dishes, you will not be left disappointed with the choice here...try the Maltese platter with Gozo cheese-lets, bean paste, sun dried tomatoes, olive and roasted Maltese sausage for starters. Mains may include Bragjoli (beef steak wrapped in minced meat, Maltese sausage and bacon) or Fried Rabbit marinated in red wine and garlic.
If on the other hand, the place has inspired you to more exotic dishes, La Mere has a colourful variety of starters, platters, salads, pasta, sizzlers, Indian curries, Thali, Mediterranean and Arabian dishes to choose from. Revert to the menu attached above with La Mere's contact details for a mouthwatering read. You should also look out for the weekly specials.
Another feature that defines La Mere is the wine list. A limited but varied choice of selected wines are available and priced at normal wine cellar prices...they then just add a reasonable corkage fee.
The beauty of La Mere is that it can claim to serve some genuinely traditional dishes through a menu that is anything but traditional. |
