
	Tal-Familja Restaurant Overview If you are after genuine Maltese and Mediterranean food in a hospitable restaurant favoured by locals, then Tal-Familja cannot be recommended highly enough. It is situated off the tourist trail in the south of Malta and run by the charming and dedicated Preca family. The actual place has a number of typical made-in-Malta stuff such as balcony balustrades used as ornaments or limestone boundary walls with Maltese paintings on display. The food has been endorsed by the top local food critics and the restaurant has consistently made it in Malta’s top restaurants shortlists. Ongoing changes and specialties on the menu are continuous, making tal-Familja a favourite for repeat custom. Pre-starters are served in the form of a traditional Maltese platter accompanied by piping hot, fresh from the oven, mini bread rolls....mmm. Starters include Gozo fried cheese, fresh oysters, homemade pasta, carpaccio di pesce, rabbit liver, their famous shellfish soup and a mixed dish of prawns, sea dates, white bait, mussels, clams, octopus, calamari and other shellfish goodies. Fish is also highly recommended for main course with local fishermen bringing in the freshest catch daily. Choose from local giant prawns, a mixed grill of tuna, swordfish and sea bass, fried octopus or fresh mussels. Meat lovers have no shortage of choice with duck, chicken breast, veal, prime steer beef fillet steak or other authentic Maltese dishes like rabbit, lamb and bragioli (beef olives) all on offer. Finally, sit back and marvel at the delicious dessert trolley bursting with mouth-watering homemade delights. From a healthy fresh fruit salad, to the ever-popular banoffee cake or the decadent homemade hot chocolate pudding topped with a chocolate liquor sauce and vanilla ice-cream...mmm again. Tal-Familja might not reflect the epitome of fine dining etiquette being most days occupied by cheerful (sometimes noisy) loyal regulars. However, it certainly reflects the epitome of authentic food and service and that inevitable feeling that you will be coming back for more.
