Bobbyland OverviewBobbyland is set along a scenic road over Dingli Cliffs along Malta’s western coast (a five minute drive from Rabat and Mdina). This is a tranquil and isolated restaurant with incredible views of the Mediterranean and the Filfla islet. Bobbyland is the only restaurant in the area and stands on the spot of what was once a technicians’ workshop for the Royal Air Force Signal Station. Reno, the founder of Bobbyland, used to graze sheep and goats here as a boy in the 1940s and made friends with the airmen, in particular with a chap called ‘Bobby’...as they say, the rest is history. Reno eventually opened up a restaurant in 1983 which he recently passed on to his daughter, Aynor, and her husband, Dennis, the chef. They transformed Bobbyland into the lovely place you see today.
Bobbyland serves a variety of meat and fish dishes with an occasional traditional Maltese twist. Rabbit in garlic is inevitably their speciality with home-made fish soup and horse meat being other examples of local gastronomic favourites. A series of Italianate antipasti and pasta dishes together with salads, juicy grills and fresh fish make up an inviting menu.
The place, simply put, is homely and inviting. Whether it is the inside cosy decor with various antique Maltese farming tools and general knick-knacks, the charming middle-aged local waitresses, the flowered terrace with sweeping sea views or its isolated location, Bobbyland has a natural attraction to it.
Bobbyland is also recommended for tea and pastries after a coastal walk along the Dingli Cliffs scenic road. |
