Ta’ Marija Restaurant is a cultural attraction in itself. Awarded the ‘The Best Maltese Food Restaurant’ for the last seven consecutive years and with the celebration of Maltese food, wine, culture and heritage at its heart, Ta’ Marija is the one restaurant you have to visit during your stay in Malta.

Keep an eye out for the themed nights. Maltese Extravaganza Nights with Folklore Dancing and Singing on Wednesdays (April to November) and Fridays (all year round). Fenkata (traditional Rabbit stew) Nights on Thursdays and Roving Musicians Nights on Saturdays. Sundays are all about the sumptuous family gathering buffet lunch.

Your hosts, the Muscat family, are a charming bunch. Benny and Marija Muscat founded the establishment in 1964 as the successful Whisper Knightclub and Farmhouse. Feeling the need to offer genuine Maltese cuisine with the growth of tourism in Malta, they revamped the locale and opened Ta’ Marija in 1990. Named after the lady of the house, Marija also ably comperes the regular shows in various languages. Ben Muscat Jr. joined the fold in 2003 bringing in a modern framework of management style. The one thing that has not changed in all these years is how the family and team work together to present a uniquely warm and friendly Maltese dining experience.

Ta’ Marija can comfortably seat 200 diners split in two dining areas. The decor takes in many typical Maltese characteristics, such as the rubble inspired walls, wooden trellises and various hanging farming artefacts. Seating arrangements can easily be altered according to needs and is able to host any type of function: from good value meals for groups to the most sumptuous champagne gala dinners.

The menu incorporates a fresh and genuine take on Malta’s food heritage. The traditional recipes, passed down the generations, arrive at your table the day they are harvested...freshly caught fish, fresh meat cuts, fruit and vegetables. While the variety available will certainly appeal to all tastes, the more adventurous will revel in tasting some ‘out of the ordinary’ Maltese dishes – octopus stew, rabbit liver or maybe some Maltese farmhouse snails.

But Ta’ Marija is not only about the food. The entertainment is nothing short of brilliant. The state of the art sound system, a band stand and an elevated dance floor make sure that the after dinners are just as enjoyable as the actual meal. This mostly takes the form of traditional Maltese folk dancing and singing where patrons are encouraged to join in while the whole show is expertly and charmingly compered by the Muscat family. No wonder it Ta' Marija restaurant has regularly been awarded as the most lively restaurant on the island.
