![]() Ta' Frenc Restaurant OverviewThe multi-award winning Ta’ Frenc restaurant was arguably single-handedly responsible for taking Malta’s fine dining scene to another level. Good restaurants existed – but then there was ta’ Frenc creating exquisite food that, for the first time, could really be called an art form. Today, a couple of its contemporaries have reached this same level of finesse but the restaurant remains a source of inspiration to many.
Located in Gozo, dining at Ta’ Frenc is somewhat of a pilgrimage for Malta’s fine dining enthusiasts. The restaurant is housed in a splendid and spacious 17th century converted farmhouse within extensive grounds including a fresh herb garden.
This is not the only in-house grown produce – Ta’ Frenc farms its own vegetables, produces its own olive oil, rears its own free range chicken and rabbit, collects its own honey, bakes its own bread...eating here is a pure connection with Gozo’s produce. This level of enthusiasm for their food is tangibly felt throughout the meal. The restaurant also sources its own champagne and wine from France even though there is no lack of choice with a massive cellar abounding with seriously quality wines.
Mario Schembri, the head chef, has devised a menu which includes a number of creative and delicious surprises. Crab meat with white fish cake, cannelloni filled with spinach and local goat’s cheese, ravioli filled with rabbit meat and liver, a fillet of beef with mushroom ravioli, a cheese and mushroom souffle, a whole spit-roasted local free range chicken, fresh seafood homemade pasta or fresh red prawns flambéed right at your table by the restaurant manager, and the list goes on. A recommended five course Chef’s Luxury Menu is available and changed weekly, as well as a more economical four course table d’hote menu.
This is what a dining experience is all about.
Reservations are a must as the whole venue is occassionally used for private functions. |
