Estepona Information

Estepona is a traditional fishing village that has expanded to become a mini Marbella with a population of over 37,000, beaches, hotels, restaurants bars and clubs. It is located 25km from Marbella town centre and within an hour’s drive of Malaga. Tradition and modernity blend to perfection in this small seaside resort, which has a medieval city centre that preserves the charm of this Andalusian village with its narrow streets, its whitewashed houses and its balconies overflowing with flowers. The local government has invested a considerable amount over the years to create beautifully manicured gardens, lovely clean streets and brand new infrastructure.

The whole of Estepona stretches across 21 km of coastline and has a total of 17 beaches. The largest and most popular being ‘La Rada’ which has been awarded a blue flag for excellence. There are a variety of watersports to take advantage of or you can just take a leisurely stroll down the promenade. There is also the ‘Playa del Cristo;’ a small cove that’s sheltered from the wind and perfect for young children because of its shallow water. Additionally, for the adults who want an all-body tan, there is a nudist beach nearby!

The action in the area mainly revolves around the marina, that lies five minutes from the centre and consists of two half’s, the fishing side and the more modern motor boat/water sports side. All kinds of boats can be hired from the marina and there are also fishing trips and dolphin spotting excursions leaving the bay at regular intervals.

The Estepona gastronomy is yet another strong point, there are numerous restaurants in the port selling quality fresh fish caught that morning, as well as other restaurants and tapas bars in the centre. Other things to see and do within the town include the clock tower in the Plaza de las Flores, which was built by Henry V and dates back from the 15th Century. There is also a small bullring on the outskirts of town that still holds regular fights.

Estepona offers a happy medium between traditional Spain and the more modern aspects of life, there’s lots to see and do.
