What is the best time of year to visit Marbella?
Summer, especially during July and August, is the hottest and busiest time but Spring and Autumn are a great time to visit too as the weather is a little cooler and the beaches aren't as crowded. Winter in Marbella can still be a sunny time; it is a quieter season but there are usually some great offers on hotels and flights.
Is it safe to drink tap water in Marbella?
Tap water in Marbella is safe to drink but it has a high sodium content in some areas making it bitter. We recommend buying bottled water, especially for babies and children.
What are shop opening times?
All shops are open between 9 and 10am, some close for a siesta around 2pm but re-open again at 4.30/5pm. Most supermarkets are open all day until 9 or 10pm but are closed on Sundays except for in July and August when Lidl and Supersol are open. Opencor is open 365 days a year.
Are the banks open at the weekend?
No, banks are closed at the weekend and keep the following hours during the week: Mon-Fri 8.30am-2pm.
Will I be able to use my ATM card in the machines?
Yes, there are plenty of machines that are very easy to operate with English, Spanish, German and other language options. There will usually be charges to your account if it is not Spanish but they should be minimal.
Are pharmacies open all day?
Generally the opening hours for pharmacies are Mon-Fri 9am-2pm, 5pm-7/8pm, Sat 9am-2/3pm. But in the height of summer most will stay open all day until around 10pm. Each town also has a 24 hour pharmacy that is listed in the window of every pharmacy and also in the local papers.
Can I buy antibiotics over the counter at the pharmacy?
No, you need a prescription from the doctor to be able to get antibiotics.
I am travelling with a child, what if they become ill, will I be able to see a doctor?
The Costa del Sol Hospital has an excellent A&E department and even has a seperate unit for children so that they are seen quicker and you don't have to wait. If you are here for more than a few weeks, then it is worth looking into private health cover like Helicopteros Sanitarios who will send an ambulance to wherever you are as soon as possible.
What is the EHIC/E111 card and do i need it?
The EHIC/E111 card entitles you to medical care that is free or at a reduced cost within the EEA, essentially you will be treated like a Spanish resident. However, it does not cover all things and should not replace travel insurance.

Are other languages spoken in Marbella?
Aside from Spanish, English is widely spoken by most people. You will also hear German, Russian, Dutch, French and Arabic.
Are there lifeguards on the beaches?
Many of the beaches along the stretch of Marbella's coastline are patrolled by lifeguards but is still a good idea to take care when swimming in the sea and not to go out to far if you are a bad swimmer.
Are the theme parks open in winter?
Most of the theme parks are open all year round except for the water parks.

You can buy stamps from a post office or Correos that are in most towns.
