Baobab Trees

The Bushmen tell the story of Baobab trees being flung down from heaven. Due to their heavy size, they landed upside down with their roots in the air. About 60km from Grootfontein on the farm Keibeb one of these enormous trees can be found standing up to 12m tall with an 18m circumference. Tree 1063 is just one of many scattered up to and including the Khaudum National Park. The Baobab tree is of immense value to the indigenous communities in terms of food and medicinal purposes. Famous British missionary, Dr David Livingstone, was said to describe it as a "giant upturned carrot". A trip to Bushmanland would not be complete without a visit to such a majestic sight.
