Opuwo

When Commissioner Hugo Hahn came to the Kaokoveld for a piece of land to build an office, the local headmen gave him more than he required, hence the name Opuwo which means "enough or no further" in Herero. Today it is regarded as the capital of the region and provides basic facilities and supplies. Its local flavor and ambience is a colorful mix between traditional Himba and western culture with shops built alongside mud huts. Be sure to stock up on supplies before traversing the Kaokoland as it is the only village for miles with fuel and other essentials. The scenic beauty of the area is unprecedented and as stunning as it is wild.
