Therefore, each destination is run by a team on the ground who have their fingers on the pulse and write from a first-hand experience, whether they are trying out places to eat, visiting sites of interest, undertaking activities, exploring hidden 'secrets', and speaking to the locals who are 'in-the-know'. Our local experts take every effort to accurately capture this information through photography, videos, virtual tours and writings. It can be truly said that our content is fresh, local and 'hand-made'.

Our Local Experts in Namibia

Uys started working in the service industry by the age of 14, assisting management at various operations varying from hunting camps to restaurants during the school holidays. After matriculating in 1998, he continued working for lodges and safari companies as aid to management. From 2000 till 2004 Uys acquired a Bachelors Degree in Tourism Destination Management at the Cape Technicon in Cape Town, South Africa.

Uys then worked and guided at various lodges as a qualified field guide, including Wolwedans in the Southern parts of the Namib Desert, Kumib Camp in the Skeleton Coast and Ongava bordering the Etosha National Park. Though guiding/conservation were and still remain a huge passion, he decided to broaden his horizons towards starting his own Tourism Business Consulting Company, and hence joined the Namibian Tourism Board in 2005/2006 as a Trade Liaison Officer. During service on the Board, I gained huge exposure to the Namibian Travel Fraternity and especially on marketing Namibia and its international strategies. In 2007 after having gathered enough courage Uys started his own consulting company called Namside Tourism Business Consultants, and have served numerous tourism operations since then.

Uys’ excitement towards running the MyDestination.com/Namibia website is based on two aspects of rendering services to the local industry. The first being able to contribute to the marketing of the Namibian destination internationally in a responsible and informatively correct manner and the second are being able to provide a trustworthy, effective and value for money marketing alternative to the local industry, which is long overdue.
