KHAO OverviewDistinctive Thai cuisine - with a New Zealand touch - served in elegant surroundings in the heart of Auckland's CBD.
One characteristic of Thai food, is that they like to eat lots of little dishes at the same time - a bit like Spanish tapas so, at KHAO, you're guaranteed to be spoiled for choice. And don't think that, just because it's an Asian restaurant, that all you're going to get is rice, rice and more rice (even though the rice is very special...), because that Kiwi-Thai fusion thing they've got going on really makes for something that little bit different.
Yeah, you've got your Pad Thais, Rad Nas, Pad Nhams and Satays - and they're all very more-ish, but then when you see dishes like Cheese Wontons, Spiced Mint Duck and Snapper Herbal Sauce, you know you're going to be getting something a little bit special.
Herbs and spices are a staple of Thai cooking, even more so than rice, so when you walk into KHAO, your senses are immediately (and pleasantly) assaulted by pangs of lemongrass, chili, lime and Thai basil. You'll already have chosen what you want to eat before you even look at the menu and, perhaps surprisingly for a Thai restaurant, KHAO offers an extensive wine list full of labels that have been carefully selected for how they complement the food.
The range of menus is equally detailed - everything from Lunch Normal, Lunch Set and Lunch Specials, to Banquets, Dinners and even takeaway for diners on the go.
KHAO also prides itself on personal, attentive service, and is a previous winner of Metro Magazine's "Best Thai Restaurant" award. There's only one way to find out why.
