Pepper Tree Restaurant & Bar Overview

Fine dining in the heart of Coromandel Town. Modern New Zealand cuisine, with excellent seafood specialities. Beautiful courtyard and an elegant, heritage interior.

Pepper Tree Restaurant & Bar is run under the watchful gaze of Richard Savage and Jennifer Harned, who have turned this historic building from grand family home into respected and award-winning dining room. The eponymous pepper tree sits in the garden and is a prominent landmark in the township, so it makes sense that the restaurant and bar itself is the primary destination for the region's gastronomes and wine connoisseurs.

Under the direction of head chef Scott Corbett, diners can look forward to a mouth-watering selection of beautifully presented dishes that combine local ingredients with international flair and invention. For entree, try a dream-inducing plate of crumbed "Magic Mushrooms"; stuffed with blue and cream cheese and served with a sublime plum sauce. Then dive into "Savannah & Scallops"; Angus eye fillet with bacon-wrapped scallops, truffled cauliflower puree and a caper & sultana tapenade. If you have room, you'd be hard pressed to find anything better than the "Decadent Chocolate Pate", which really doesn't need explaining (or justifying).

In summer, dine out in the pretty, sun-drenched courtyard, or upon the shady veranda, and in winter, cosy up by the fire and enjoy a velvety glass of Mills Reef Syrah or Montana Pinot Noir. Making everyone feel welcome, there's even a children's menu, full of fresh, healthy options.

If you're just passing through, though, try and pop in for one of their legendary brunches, and feast on timeless "Eggs Benedict", or go large with a "Shellfish Tasting Plate".

Great location, Delicious Food
Janet and Chris from London

We stopped for lunch when we were passing through Coromandel. We're so glad we did. The courtyard setting was beautiful and relaxing. We had the spare ribs and the burger which were both delicious! The service was friendly and attentive. We'll definitely return and would suggest you visit when visiting Coromandel town.
