Hippopotamus Restaurant & Bar Overview

Exquisite fine dining opposite Wellington Harbour in this third floor restaurant inside the Museum Art Hotel. Stunning, ornate decor, five-star service and food that looks far too good to eat.

With its marine views, large tables and high-class ambience, Hippopotamus is one of Wellington's most sought-after places to eat.

Often booked up weeks in advance, the restaurant offers a range of menus to suit everyone's timetable, from Lunch Set Menus, Corporate Menus, Pre-Show Dining Menus and a standard A La Carte.

The Brasserie Lunch Menu wouldn't look out of place in a first-class dinner restaurant, with delights such as Poached Scampi in a Clam Veloute, and Salmon Sashimi in the entrees section, and Braised Pork Belly, Beef Fillet and Sirloin Steak in Red Wine & Butter Sauce for the main.

For dinner, the bar is raised even higher. Sauteed snails are a popular choice for starters, and the Beef Ribs with Polenta and Dauphinoise Potatoes are a star attraction.

Any visit to Hippopotamus, though, isn't complete with both a sumptuous dessert and a nightcap in the opulent bar area. You'll be treated like royalty here, right down to the complimentary valet parking and personal table service.
