From the north, approach Wellington on the Motorway, come off at Aotea Quay and follow the harbour road all the way around, past the Westpac Stadium, onto Waterloo Quay. Continue all the way, onto Customhouse Quay and Jervois Quay. At Hunter Street, go right then immediately left onto Victoria Street. Follow Victoria Street all the way over Bond Street and then go left up Edward Street.

From the south, head into Wellington on SH-1 towards Basin Reserve Park. At the Park, go straight over onto Sussex Street, right at Taranaki Street, then left at Wakefield Street near the top. At Victoria Street, go left, then right at Edward Street.

Very modern, but makes the most of that hazy European influence. Vivo Wine Bar (or "Enoteca" to give it the proper name), is a magnet for after-work drinkers and those who just want to wind down in mellow surroundings. Situated in the heart of Wellington, but lucky enough to capture a quiet, intimate side street setting, Vivo has been welcoming the more discerning diner for years. Sit back in one of the leather-clad booths, or sit up at the bar in front of a mass of exposed brick and low lighting, and enjoy a plate of sharing dishes, including Mussel Fritters, Italian Meatballs (Polpetti) and the classic Ricotta & Spinach Cannelloni. Service is brisk and friendly, and dishes can often be altered to order and taste. Drinks include a comprehensive wine list and some great imported bottled beers, and because this place is slightly off the beaten track, they won't be beaten on value, either.
