The Olive Press Bistro & Bar Overview

Cosy, inviting European restaurant offering French, Spanish and Italian classics, all served up in a beautiful, rustic dining room with an amazing courtyard out back. Service is warm and unobtrusive.

The Olive Press Bistro & Bar has been a very welcome addition to Devonport's dining scene since opening in early 2011, and the locals have been quick to claim it as their own. Enjoying a peaceful location just off the beaten track, you'll immediately feel at home as you step inside this little slice of Mediterranea, already thinking of which fine wine to sample from the dozens displayed in the huge rack covering the main wall. It's an intimate place, with soft lighting and even a hint of romance.

The menu is considered and deliberate, using fresh, local fish, meat and vegetables to create dishes such as basil, prosciutto & Camembert stuffed chicken, fish of the day on seared scallops & lemon scented risotto, and venison ragout.

Staff are very friendly, yet wonderfully discreet, and seem to know exactly when you're ready for the next course, or when the wine glass needs refilling. They also know both food and drink menus intimately, so don't be afraid to ask for advice if you're having trouble deciding between the spicy meatballs and three-pepper pate.

The most popular tables are outside in the pretty courtyard, which is one of those places you wish you could teleport to your own house - a gorgeous sun trap of easy chairs, sofas, foliage and flowers, and which even has blankets and an open fire at night, for when the evening chill starts to bite. It's little touches like this, plus the fabulous food, that's been making regulars out of Devonport's gastronomes.
