A good place badly run
Dr Harikrishnan from Muscat

I thought I would score a point with the wife by taking her to The Copper Chimney, since it came highly recommended. When I rang up to book the table and ask for directions, a very pleasant sounding young man took pains to help me with all the information I needed. When we entered the restaurant through its impressive main door, the decor and ambience was impressive. I was sure the missus would give me a high 80 or 90 out of hundred. Then reality struck without warning! For about 40 odd people who were there by then, there were all of three waiters! There was this large group of office goers at a nearby table who seemed to be doing nothing much in particular except sit there and chat - no food, no drinks, no starters. It appeared a bit odd, but who were we to tell people how to spend their evening? Later, we found ourselves joining their ilk! The starters we ordered came about 30 minutes into our stay. The juices we wanted came after another five minutes! By then we were ravenous. The group nearby was still living solely on conversation. I was beginning to be a bit irritable by then, since I could see my marks falling below the 70 mark. When the plates - finally - came, I was hovering around pass mark - the plates could have come right off the fridge, they were that cold. They were about to freeze by the time the food - actually - came another good 15 minutes and a couple of reminders later. Just as well, because the stuffed capsicum and "maharaja" daal we ordered were suitably cold! The boondi raita was the warmest dish by a long shot! Oh, the dahi was right off the container - not whipped as it ought to have been. By then I was myself turning cold and begging for grace marks. But I started to thaw as soon (ha!!) as the bill came - some jerk had billed us for three soft drinks, and the wrong size of bottled water! Another five to seven minutes for the bill to be corrected, and we left, battered, and bored out of all conversation. So we eavesdropped on the office group - one was heard telling the waiter they were there for dinner, please, not breakfast! And then on my way out, I realized that the restaurant should have been called The Brass Chimney, if one went by the proportion of metal inside. I asked the manager why such a lovely looking place was so badly run, and he - in all fairness to him, very politely - confessed that they were atleast two to three waiters too short!
