Sanford International Airport

An alternative airport from the Orlando International Airport is the Sanford International Airport, which is actually named OrlandoSanford International Airport.  Located north of Orlando in the city of Sanford, this airport is a popular destination for many domestic travelers in the United States who are heading to Orlando, and also for select international travelers.  With ten airlines it is a secondary airport that services the greater Orlando area with flights from all over the United States and as far away as Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.  Allegient Air has the largest presence with service to over 30 cities in the United States.  Their strategy is to service smaller airports across the country that are overlooked by the larger domestic airlines (similar to the strategy of Ryan Air in Europe). In doing so they offer an economical alternative for many Americans who do not live close to major cities with major airports and wish to travel to Central Florida and also International guests who are traveling on a budget.  The OrlandoSanford Airport is located approximately 45 miles (72km) from Disney World, 28 miles (45km) from Downtown Orlando, and 36 miles (58km) from Universal Studios.
