Phuket Aquarium

The Phuket Aquarium was established in 1983 as a department of the Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC), which is part of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) under the Ministry of Natural Resources. It is located on the tip of Cape Panwa in the south of Phuket Island.
An important focus of the aquarium is to educate and increase the understanding of the public on the marine and coastal environment of Thailand and to promote the sustainable management of this environment. To achieve this, the aquarium has been developing educational programmes and exhibitions to be more interactive with audiovisual media and educational yet entertaining elements. The aquarium now receives approximately 300,000 visitors annually.
Additionally, Phuket Aquarium does research on the restocking of decimated clown fish populations, aquarium water quality management, life cycle ecology and the aquaculture of marine ornamental organism.
