Railroad Kingdom Overview

NTRODUCTION:

Ever since rail travel and train tracks and locomotives entered our consciousness more than one hundred and fifty years ago people of all ages and all backgrounds have maintained a great affection and emotion for them. It comes as no surprise then that some bright entrepreneurs in Prague have created what is catchily known as the Kingdom of Railroad not too far from the centre of the city. Installed and opened only since 2009 the preliminary stage of construction boasts more than 115 square meters of model railroad. The exhibition space itself covered three floors and over 2500 square meters of area. And this, as they say is just the beginning, because that display space represented just a cross section of technologies an construction techniques which will also be used in completing the next stages of the construction of the Railroad Kingdom. Much more has already been added to that, and in fact the intention is to develop and expand the display space every three months for the forseeable future, the ultimate aim being that the Railroad Kingdom will eventually come to represent a model of the entire Czech Republic. People visiting should be able to see many of the most well known landmarks in the country.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR:

Those who come through the doors of the Railroad Kingdom will be able to view numerous important parts of the Czech Republic which includes a moving automobile park and many interesting technical tricks. A system of miniature cameras mounted inside the train locomotives gives visitors the chance to really imagine riding the trains through the miniature surroundings. An integral part of the Railroad Kingdom is the ongoing exhibition about the history of railroads in the Czech Republic and a modern educational program for schools prepared by the Ministry of Education.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Kingdom of Rail is a tremendously enjoyable stop for adults and possibly even more so for children. The quality and attention to detail of the models are breathtaking. It is necessary to mention therefore that eating and drinking on the premises is not on, nor indeed smoking either. Items like backpacks, large bags, buggies and prams are also to be checked into the cloakroom. Wheelchair access is very much an option and those in wheelchairs should hopefully enjoy it immensely. Videoing and photographing is welcome too. Returning to the amazing attention to detail of the creators of the museum The Railroad Kingdom endeavours to make it posible to view actual arrival and departure schedules for real trains by virtue of the museums miniature timetable as well as create a background on the set displaying night and day travel of the locomotives .

The place to go to see all this is the Andel Shopping centre in the Smichov part of the city, a suburb with its own real railway station that you may like to look at to. Nevertheless it is in the Shopping Centre you must go to discover this particular museum and exceptionally easy it is to reach by taking the yellow line metro, or any of a number of trams including the ubiquitous number 9 tram to the stop Andel. Now the opening hours of the museum are very accomodating as you will discover it ready and waiting for you every day from 9am until 7pm. It really is the makings of a lovely two hour or so diversion and entertaining as well as fascinating entertainment.
