Prague Folklore Evenings Information

During the last twenty five years when so much of Europe has become flooded with the same music, literature, shopping habits, and entertainment because of the all-powerful influence of big multi-national corporations it is refreshing to know that in the Czech Republic there is still a strong will to keep alive the richness and the beauty of its own traditional folklore and customs. And what wonderful folklore it is. Right throughout this spectacular country one can find tremendous opportunities to celebrate and admire folk traditions. This includes folk music and dance especially but so much more besides. Much of this revival was enabled after the fall of Communism here at the end of the 1980s and with the the Folklore Association of the Czech Republic set up in 1991 things have gone from strength to strength.

It is in the villages and small towns of the Czech countryside that one can most appreciate the pleasure of folklore occasions where festivals, costumed dances, music evenings, gastronomic weekends, art and craft demonstrations, and folk ensembles give us a moving reminder of how quaint and charming things used to be. Each region of the country has its own habits and specialities and all of them do things in their own unique way. To spend some time travelling leisurely through this friendly country discovering it through its folklore is a splendid way to spend time in this magical country. There is a comprehensive and very attractive Calendar of Folklore Events occuring the whole year through but naturally most frequently during the summer months. You could consider going to the International Folk Festival of Brno in the Moravian capital which takes place for two weeks at the end of August. Or what about smaller and more spontaneous festivals in lovely little places like Litovel from where hails the wonderful Hanacka Group. But really there are any number of fabulous events in so many towns and villages just waiting for you.  All of these occasions provide an unforgettable chance to immerse yourself in old and evocative folklore culture, to talk and share stories with people, and to make special friends.

If you find yourself accommodated in Prague only without a chance to travel too far into the countryside the good news is, is that there are also some wonderful evenings of folklore entertainment to be had in the capital also. One such possibility is the outstanding The Czech Folklore Dining and Dancing Experience right in the city. It includes a Folklore Garden and Restaurant na Orechovce along with a superb programme of dining as well as music and dancing. An evening full of fine food and sweet melodies is a wonderful way to learn about Czech culture. So whether you find yourself contained to Prague, or with time and freedom on your hands to wander around this fabulous country, some time spent dipping into the marvellous folklore heritage of this land is a memorable and rewarding experience.
