![]() Luka Lu Restaurant OverviewLuka Lu Restaurant is the clever and imaginatively titled restaurant in the quaint and very pretty Mala Strana or 'Little Quarter' part of Prague suggesting a shelter from the storm of Balkan craziness, being as it is a Serbo-Croatian eatery not far from the lapping of the timeless Vltava River. Don't be surprised to be assailed by wacky motifs and installations once inside its doors. I spotted upside-down chairs dangling from the ceiling, cast-iron bells on the walls and children’s shorts on clothespins....and that was without trying. The joie-de-vivre and hospitality most certainly extends to the staff also whose sense of humour apparently knows no bounds, nor their patience and helpfulness for that matter too. The menu or menus as they would have you accept, being as there is comprehensive and very broad ranging Starters, Main Dishes, Wine Lists etc, deserves time and care to select from for the choices here at Luka Lu Restaurant are many and very tempting.
One could get off to a great start with a selection from either the Hot or the Cold list of Hors D'oeuvres. Take for example the cold Salmon Carpaccio, or perhaps the equally fine Traditional Balkan Cheese with Ajvar, and one is neatly on their way to some superb and delicious dining. Alternatively with something warm to get the taste buds flowing one could take on one of the tasty Soups on offer like the Balkan 'Beg' Soup or how about the Prawn Skewer with Cherry Tomatoes. Salads make an appearance next on the menu and one is so inclined there are an excellent selection of Balkan inspired salads or indeed some varieties which are a little more familiar. It is all up to you. Staying with foods healthy the possibility of something delightfully wholesome and enjoyable is laid out in some wonderful Pasta selections not to mention some superb cheeses.
Many other people love their meat and-or Fish and at Luka Lu Restaurant they won't be disappointed with Chicken, Duck, Beef, Lamb, Pork, Veal, Schnitzel, and the tenderest of Steaks all vying for your attention. Credit to the chefs for bringing flavour and imagination to so many of the dishes. Side Dishes too are plentiful and if in doubt the friendly staff will be delighted to advise you on exactly what accompanies your selection best.
For washing down all this excellent fare no possibility appears to have been overlooked. Innumerable kinds of cocktails, rums, spirits, soft drinks, beers, and of course wines are all laid out for your perusal and selection. Luka Lu has a charm which can really be infectious where colours clash kaleidoscopically around you blending with the pictures and photos on the walls of the familiar, the vague and the impossible. Reservations are welcome at Luka Lu, which actually means 'Harbour Lu' but more than likely at anytime you can drop in and see if you like it. For sure it won't be boring. |
