Porta Atlantico Information

Driving west of the San Juan Metro Area along Expressway 22 you will experience the diverse Porta Atlantico Region of Puerto Rico. Bordered by lush mountains and forests to the south and Atlantic Beaches to the north the region is characterized by its manufacturing, cattle and pharmaceutical industries as well as surfing beaches, golf and magnificent natural attractions.

Punta Salinas

Punta Salinas is a beautiful public bathing beach located in Toa Baja, it has recently been given a Blue Flag designation.

Dorado

Recognized as one of the more exclusive suburbs of the San Juan Metro Area, the city of Dorado is also home to 5 championship 18-hole golf courses, four designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. ranking among the best in the Caribbean. Just to the west of Dorado in Vega Baja is Cerro Gordo a lovely and tranquil public beach.

Manatí

Home to the Puerto Rican Pharmaceutical Industry, many of the major companies have manufacturing plants in the Manatí area. Mar Chiquita a stunning rock protected beach with awe inspiring views lies to the west. Drive a short distance south and fields of pineapple plants surround you. For those that enjoy discount shopping , the Puerto Rico Premium Outlets are located in nearby Barceloneta.

Arecibo

Arecibo is known for its Arecibo Observatory, the worlds largest Radio Telescope. Nestled in rolling hills, views of the telescope and surrounding area are magnificent. The Arecibo Observatory is open Wednesday through Sunday 9:00am to 4:00pm. (August through May) Monday through Sunday during the same hours. (June and July). (787) 878-2612 

Anglers from the world over are drawn to the waters off the coast for some world-class deep sea fishing, after a long day at sea they are guided back home by the site of the Arecibo lighthouse. Los Tubos Beach is a mecca for surfers and other thrill-seekers.

Camuy

The Río Camuy Cave Park south of Arecibo in the town of Camuy is one of the most extensive river cave systems in the western hemisphere and a must see. Open Wednesday through Sunday and Holidays (787) 898-3100.
