 Bar Gitano OverviewBar Gitano is one of the latest additions by celebrity Chef Roberto Treviño to San Juan Puerto Rico's dynamic restaurant scene. Located in the chic Condado section of this vibrant city, Bar Gitano has quickly become the place to be and be seen.
The attractively rustic dinning room at Bar Gitano evokes feelings of being in an Old World Spanish Tapas Bar in the heart of Spain. The intimate setting is made up of small tables with comfortable seating. The bar area is also set to enjoy Tapas along with your favorite wine or other beverage. Speaking of wines, Bar Gitano boasts one of the best selections of wines in Puerto Rico. The friendly, knowledgeable, staff is more than willing to help you select a bottle that will be a perfect pairing with your Tapas or meal. Both the lunch and dinner menus are focused on Tapas that are reasonably priced starting at $4.00. The choices are many, Chef Treviño as always has done an excellent job of fusing the flavors of Spain with his innovative use of spices and local ingredients. Being a Spanish themed restaurant, there are plenty of meat, chicken and seafood items on the menu as well including traditional paellas.
The restaurant gets very busy especially from Thursday night through the weekend so reservations are recommended. Arrive early enjoy some of Bar Gitano's signature sangria and mingle with guests in the outdoor seating area while you wait for your table.
If you are visiting San Juan Puerto Rico or already live in Puerto Rico, Bar Gitano is worth a visit for an unforgettable culinary experience.
Bar Gitano has valet parking available. Parking along Ashford Avenue can be difficult, a good choice would be to park at the Marriott diagonally across the street from Bar Gitano.

September 2011 Absolutely Amazing!!!

We had an hour to kill before we could check into our condo, so we decided to go get some food. We had never heard of this place and just saw it while we were looking for a place to eat. It was the best discovery ever!!! The food is absolutely amazing and the service was awesome! It did take a little bit longer than normal to get your food, but it was worth. Michael, a waiter there, was terrific and a lot of fun. He was more than willing to give us pointers on areas to go and things to try. We liked this place so much, we ate there five times during our five day vacation!!! I will definitely be going back there, whenever I go vacation in Puerto Rico again.

My wife and I decided to visit Bar Gitano on 4/24/11 at 3:00 PM.When we enter the restaurant we noticed we were the only customers present.We were gently seated by the waiter and I asked him if it was possible to watch a basketball game on tv.He accepted my suggestion and asked the manager.This lady had the nerve to tell me that she would consider it.(A kitchen employee and her were watching a soccer game.)I ordered a bottle of wine and two tapas but I realized she had no intention to satisfy my wishes.Her attitude was far from proffessional and in fact she gave us a very inmature gesture.We cancelled the order and left.We felt sorry for the nice waiter.No bussines will be succesful with this type of employee.

April 2011 Long Wait For Food - Food Taste Good - Charged Incorrectly by almost 3X The Amount

I wanted to treat myself to some fine dining and decided to walk down Ashford to look for a restaurant to dine at. I came accross Bar Gitano and decided to go ahead and dine there. I was seated right away since I was alone. I did have to wait about 10 minutes for a waiter to serve me. I ordered a Corona and also the steak from the menu. Since I ordered my steak well done, I knew that there would be some wait. Roughly 30 minutes later my steak had arrived. I was impressed with the meal since it had great taste. The waiter came and asked me if I wanted anything else and I said yes can I get another Corona. About 10 minutes went by and the waiter never came back with a Corona so I just decided to ask for my bill. I received the bill instantly and paid with my Debit Card. My bill was about $29.00 for the steak and $6.00 for the Corona. I left a $10.00 tip so the toal was $45.00. That is what I signed my recipt for. I was reconciling my checkbook today and noticed a charge of $112.95 from Bar Gitano. I was shocked as to how could this huge mistake could have happened. This is a fine dining facility, where I consider it to have nothing but professionals working there. Overall I am disappointed and will definitely not return due to this experience. My only hope is that THEIR mistake can be rectified. I do have my receipts to show the incorrect charge. It is just experiencing what I have experienced. Good luck to you if you decide to dine in this establishment.
