- Tips For Travellers
As with anywhere in India, you should take various precautions when travelling in Rajasthan to ensure your trip is safe and enjoyable.
Health
What you need to protect yourself will depend on what part of Rajasthan you visit, so consult your local travel clinic to determine exactly what (if any) vaccinations you require, including malarials.
It is always advisable to wear sun cream in Rajasthan, but this is especially important during the summer months, when the heat can be extremely strong. Alternatively, during the winter months, warm clothing will be required in the places with higher altitudes, such as Mount Abu.
Time
India's standard time is GMT + 5.30 hours
Communication
Cyber cafes with internet and phone facilities can be found in abundance all over India, and all hotels have phone and/or internet facilities. Prices vary, but on the whole are very cheap.
Drugs
The penalties for any drug related offences are extremely severe. The minimum penalty for cannibis possesion (regardless of amount) is ten years imprisonment. In case you didn't catch that, here it is again. Ten years.
Other precautions
Be very wary of con men or people posing as guides. Exchange your money only at authorised outlets. Do not take pictures of anything related to the military.
Temple etiquette
Footwear is not permitted in temples, but there will usually be someone outside to look after shoes and the like. Tip 5 or 10 rupees.
Religion
Religion has always played a vital role in the lives of Rajasthani people with cultures and traditions deeply rooted in their souls. Hinduism is followed by the majority of the population, though you can also find traces of other religions, such as Islam, Sikhism and Christianity.
Language
The principle languages spoken are Hindu and Rajasthani, but English is the official language of the state.
