Icelandair Hotel Hengill

The newest addition to the upscale Icelandair Hotel chain, Hotel Hengill opened in 2008 in the countryside, about a 30-minute drive from the capital.

The hotel is themed around “energy” and is located an active geothermal region of the country, with hot springs and steam vents nearby. The hotel is located at the foot of Mount Hengill, with a beautiful view of Lake Thingvallavatn and other surrounding mountains. From September to March, it’s also an ideal spot to catch a glimpse of the elusive northern lights.

Each of the hotel’s 24 non-smoking double rooms are painted in energising colours and fitted with crystal salt lamps, all designed to help revitalise guests. Most rooms have mountain views. Each room has phone, TV, radio and wireless internet access.

Hotel Hengill has a fine dining restaurant with panoramic views across the remarkable landscape. The menu focuses on Icelandic specialities, such as trout from Lake Thingvallavatn. The house bar continues the energy theme by offering a selection of refreshing and enlivening drinks.
