Einar Ben Overview

Located in the center of Reykjavik´s downtown area is Einar Ben, a fine dining Icelandic cuisine restaurant. The restaurant is named after one of Iceland´s most beloved poets and entrepreneurs. Einar Ben had ideas about Hydro Electric power plants to run railway’s, heavy industry and on exporting electricity to the UK via a cable from Iceland to Scotland. Einar Ben even lived at one time in the building that today houses the restaurant.

The menu is traditional Icelandic where Einar Ben´s chefs utilize the fresh Icelandic produce. As you browse the menu it´s not unlikely that you will find yourself in trouble deciding what to order. To foreign visitors we recommend trying the Icelandic lamb. the Icelandic lamb has a wild taste as they live wild in the Icelandic country side before they are gathered each fall. Besides the lamb, it´s always worth it to try lobster dishes or local fish delicacies.

If you are a real gourmet person then the set menu is something for you. The set menu is where Einar Ben´s chefs use each day’s best produce to create a five course feast for your table. Combine that with carefully selected wines to complement each dish and you might think you´ve died and gone to heaven.

In 2008, Einar Ben was featured on Food and Wine´s magazine´s “Go to List” and was also awarded the prestige Wine Spectator wine awards. Einar Ben was the only restaurant who made it to both list but a total of 6 Icelandic restaurants were recognized by Food and Wine magazine and Wine Spectator.
