Health Food Vegetarian Casual dining

Solla Eiríks, head chef of Gló is the world champion of raw food, so you know you're in good hands. She also worked as actor Ben Stiller's private chef when he was in Iceland in 2012

When Gló opened up their first restaurant inside Listhúsið in Laugardalur valley in Reykjavík it immediately became Iceland's reigning vegetarian restaurant. Today, it still hasn't relinquished its crown and operates at five different locations in different formats.

Gló was the first restaurant in Reykjavík to focus on serving raw food. Raw food is all about consuming unprocessed vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds that are never heated to more than 47°C. This preparation method preserves the enzymes in the ingredients, so your body gets an extra-large portion of excellent nutrition. The menu changes day to day, but always features vegan, vegetarian and raw food dishes, as well as meat dishes. The food is simple and modest; filling, but not flooded with too many spices or ingredients.

You can go to Gló and get healthy and nutritious food to take away or eat at the restaurant. Gló always uses organic vegetables and ingredients, without additives and preservatives, in every dish.

The head chef at Gló is Sólveig Eiríksdóttir, known in Iceland simply as Solla, a pioneer in the field of healthy cooking in Iceland. Healthy food and haute cuisine started as a hobby for her, as she had a career in textile design before she got into the restaurant business. She founded the vegetarian restaurant Grænn Kostur in 1994, and ran it for ten years. She also founded Himneskt, a best-selling organic food label, along with Elías Guðmundsson, who runs Gló with her today.

Treat yourself to a wholesome and soothing meal at Gló, your body will thank you afterwards. If you don't have a lot of time, head over to Gló Street Food for a quick, delicious, and healthy bite!
