The Cheese Shop Overview

The Cheese Shop or Ostabúðin, as it´s called in Icelandic, is located on Skólavörðustígur – only a few steps off Laugavegur shopping street. The Cheese Shop, as the name indicates, offers a wide selection of cheeses but it´s much more than that. The Cheese Shop is first and foremost a gourmet shop. Besides all the cheeses you´ll find yourself surrounded with delicacies such as hot-smoked goose, cured lamb fillet, salmon tartar and goose liver pate.

The Cheese section has a variety of cow and goat cheeses. Besides the local Icelandic cheeses they also offer cheeses from Denmark, Norway, France, Italy and Spain.

The entrée and topping part of the shop is far from empty and offers several special meat and game products as well as four types of Icelandic salami, and of course the item no gourmet shop can be without; Italian Prosciutto.

If you happen to be in the area around lunch time you could also check out The Cheese Shop lunch specials. Every weekday they offer soups, fish of the day, salads and other light courses to for take-out or to eat in. This small eatery is known for their delicious dishes but only serves them from 11.30am-1.30pm, so make sure you are on time.
