Old Harbour Reykjavik

The seafood at the restaurants by the harbour is world class - the fish is literally caught the same day, brought to the harbour and then cooked!
The old harbour in Reykjavik is a beautiful and historic part of town which in recent years has been completely renovated, to become one of the nicest places in Reykjavik to get some food, do some shopping, or just to wander around and enjoy the view across the bay and the ambiance of this lively part of town.
The harbour is still the venue of fishing ships, and increasingly of whale watching ships and other tour boats. Beside the dock are the renovated old houses that used to house the fishing industry, but today they mostly house restaurants, stores, museums and workshops.
Lined up along the pier you will find tour companies like Elding, Reykjavik Bikes and Special Tours and Life of Whales.
In the green-blue houses by the docs and the houses around you can find restaurants, including an especially wide variety of seafood restaurants, cafés, design shops, museums like the Volcano house and different hotels and guest houses.
Still further out to the east you will see the magnificent, newly built Harpa concert house with its unique glass architecture, and further on to the west you can find the Maritime Museum and the Saga Museum. At the end of Grandagarður street you will notice a piece of art which consists of a grassy knoll you can climb for the view, with a fish-drying shack at the top, as an homage to the fishing history of the area.
