Friðheimar - Geothermal Greenhouse

Reykjavik

Places of Interest

Friðheimar is an unusual Geothermal Greenhouse, where a combination of Geothermal Energy and Hydroelectricity is used to grow tomatoes all year round, in spite of Iceland being naturally less than ideal for such activities.

They welcome visitors and take them on guided tours, explaining the combination of Greenhouses, artificial lighting and other factors that are used in the process, and then offering them a taste of the result! It's also possible to take tasty souvenirs with them, in the form of tomatoes or salsa, to name a couple.

They also breed horses and put on horse shows in 14 languages.

Directions

Friðheimar, Bláskógabyggð, off route 35 in South Iceland, Selfoss, 801
