Elding Whale Watching

Elding operates daily whale watching tours from Reykjavík Old Harbour. Whale watching in Iceland has become increasingly popular in the last few years as whale sightings are very high. Common sightings from Reykjavík include minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbour porpoises and the popular humpback whales. Sea birds such as gannets, puffins, guillemots, cormorants, gulls, kittiwakes, and arctic terns also accompany the boats all depending on the season.

Each tour takes between 2,5 - 3,5 hours. Together with introduction and safety information expert naturalist guides tell you where to look and what there is to see to ensure that you don't miss out on anything. Warm overalls are available for use during the tour but it is always advisable to dress warmly and wear hats and gloves as the sea breeze can be very cold even on summer days.

Elding also operates the Whale Watching Centre, a floating museum located on an old fishing vessel that stands in Reykjavík Old Harbour. There you can learn about the biology of whales in Faxaflói bay and view videos and photographs from previous whale watching tours. It is an ideal stopover before Elding's tours and free of charge for Elding's passengers.

Elding operates three specially modified boats for sailing for the Whale Watching tours. On board facilities include an onboard cafe, restrooms, inside and outside seating areas and a great sound system. Elding is EarthCheck certified and all boats hold the Blue Flag. In 2008 Elding received the Environmental Awards of the Icelandic Tourist Board.
