Rio de Janeiro Weather

Rio is the "hot" spot to be but the weather and overall climate is generally very agreeable. The region surrounding Rio is tropical which means hot and humid, however the climate of metropolitan Rio is strongly affected by its topography and its proximity to the ocean. The breezes off the ocean moderates the temperature and many people are surprised to learn that the average annual temperature ranges from a low of 21°C (70°F) to a high of 27°C (81°F). The greatest amount of rainfall occurs in December which is Rio’s summer. On occasion, strong showers (January – April) may provoke landslides in the mountains. For the most part,Rio enjoys blue skies with an average of 173 hours of sunshine per month. When it‘s cold in the northern hemisphere, Rio is enjoying its warmest weather with February temperatures ranging from 23°C (74°F) to 30°C (86°F).
