El Pallomar Mexican Restaurant

El Pallomar is one of the few Mexican Restaurants found in Rio and you will need to search a bit to find this one. It’s hidden in the back of a shopping mall in Barra, but it is worth the visit, especially if you have a desire for Mexican in the “Tex-Mex” (Mexican with American influences) style.

In addition to the traditional tacos and burritos, El Pallomar serves a number of salads, and mixed dishes. The fajitas are a particular good choice and you can order them with your choice of fillings including beef, chicken, cheese and beans. The El Pallomar mix, which includes small portions of the most typical traditional Mexican items (salsa, chili and cheese nachos) are accompanied by crispy tortillas and are also an excellent choice. You will also find beef dishes such as a fine filet mignon or seafood offerings to compliment the Tex-Mex dishes. And of course, the meal would not be complete without a few margaritas which are available in lemon, strawberry and mango flavors.

El Pallomar is a pioneer in Rio for this style cuisine but has been successful for more than a decade. Along with the food, you’ll appreciate their effort at Mexican décor with the Blue House exterior loaded with colorful flourishes reminiscent of a fiesta. They also have an outside deck which is perfect on warm afternoons or evenings offering great views of the Tijuca Forest.
