From Copacabana/Ipanema/Leblon: (By Car) Take the Avenida Vieira Souto Avenue and continue down to the Avenida Delfim Moreira Niemeyer. Take this Road to Avenida Niemeyer Gavea. Gain access to the motorway and continue to Lagoa-Barra of the High Flags and cross the tunnel of Joah. Pass over the Joatinga bridge. Take the Av Min Ivan Lins, Armando Lombardi Avenue and cross the Marapendi bridge. Take the Avenue of the Americas and look for the side road to the BarraShopping complex.

The BarraShopping and New York City Center is the largest shopping and entertainment complex in Latin America. It features over 600 stores and has a complete line-up of leisure and entertainment options including movie theatres, multiple international dining options, bowling alleys and more.

The shopping center in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro has been leveraging the natural growth and movement in this new prestigious part of the city. BarraShopping first opened in 1981 and has enjoyed a planned growth in infrastructure to support shopping, entertainment, dining, leisure and medical services. The shopping center was designed to take advantage of contemporary mall architecture with wide corridors, open multi-tiered areas, natural lighting and creative use of indoor gardens and outdoor landscaping.

With its 600 stores, BarraShopping offers just about everything one can imagine – you will find a wide variety of department stores and retail boutiques carrying electronics, books and music, sporting goods, shoes, family apparel, perfumes, cosmetics, and much more. You will also find the same variety and choice in dining options from upscale restaurants to traditional “fast food” franchises.

New York City Center is a sister complex connected to BarraShopping through a network of 40 shops. In addition to shopping, you can enjoy the fitness center or better yet, grab a beer at one of the pubs. Watching a movie is a whole new experience – there are 18 arena-style projection theaters accommodating 4,500 movie patrons with advanced sound and image technology.

With so much to do and see at the complex, it’s easy to see why over 25 million shoppers visit BarraShopping every year. Try to visit during the week as the mall is very busy on Sunday.
